Boat Insurance Provides Security For Your Fishing And Recreational ...

People love to get away for vacations and weekends which allow them to purse water sports, fishing, relaxing by the lake, and camping trips. Boating is a common and enjoyable pastime across the land and many camping sites, lakes, and resorts cater to people who enjoy turning to the water when they are not working. Boat insurance is an excellent way to keep your high-end boats and your marine gear protected and secure in case something unforeseen occurs.

When people invest in boats, the investment can be a few thousand dollars or tens of thousands of dollars and more. Boats can run the gamut from small fishing john boats to large, luxury houseboats, and to top-notch speed boats. Many people make monthly payments on their boats much the same way people pay on car notes and loans each month. Most lenders will require that boats which they make a loan for are to be fully insured to protect them against an accident.

Purchasing boat insurance can be done through your local insurance agent or through an insurance company online. Many online insurance companies offer a variety of policies for boats and other recreational items and will provide you with options so you can select the policy which will provide the most coverage for the type of boat you have at the most affordable price. It is worth the time you invest to call and price compare between local insurance companies and insurance companies online. Oftentimes, people find exceptional insurance deals offered to them through insurance companies through the Internet.

Many insurance companies will provide you with quotes within just minutes. These quotes can be emailed to you directly and can help you to quickly decide which company will be the most affordable for your insurance boating needs. If you have had full coverage boat insurance for your fishing boat, speed boat, or houseboat and then have let that coverage lap once your loan has been paid in full, you could be putting yourself at a dangerous financial risk. Boats can have accidents while in the water being used and they can also be subject to extreme weather conditions and storms. This can result in potential significant boat damage and can leave you with the repairs to be paid out of your own pocket.

Obtaining and keeping boat insurance will allow you to have a peace of mind which may not otherwise be possible. You will always know that your boat is protected and insured and if something undesirable occurs, you can simply call your insurance agent and have the agent begin the process to get your boat restored or replaced. Having to pay for these expenses out of pocket can result in you not being able to pay to have it replaced.

Boat insurance also provides liability insurance for passengers as well as for people in other boats if an accident on the water does occur. This will help to protect you from potential lawsuits can help to protect your financial future.

IDC and Gartner: Lenovo leaps past Dell for second place, still trails HP for the gold

IDC and Gartner have come out with their latest Q3 rankings of the world's PC manufacturers, which means it's time for us to do some dissecting. Not much changed at the top of the heap, where, according to IDC, HP still rules the roost with about 18 percent market share (despite that whole PC biz spinoff thing). But the most dramatic shift came from Lenovo, which scurried past Dell for second place, with 13.7 percent market share (13.5, according to Gartner) -- a 36.1 percent jump from the third quarter of 2010 (25.2 percent, says Gartner). Dell's pie slice, on the other hand, shrunk slightly to 12 percent this quarter, down from 12.6 percent last year. On the global scale, meanwhile, PC sales increased by about 3.6 percent compared to Q3 2010 (3.2 percent, in Gartner's books), though both research firms acknowledged that this figure was well below their respective projections. Why? IDC points to several economic factors, including the threat of a double-dip recession, while Gartner blames the rise of "non-PC devices," including tablets. Surprise!

Hollande to run for presidency for French left (Reuters)

PARIS (Reuters) ? Francois Hollande on Sunday became the French Socialist Party candidate who will try to unseat President Nicolas Sarkozy next April and return a Socialist to the Elysee Palace for the first time in 17 years.

With well over two-thirds of close to three million votes counted, Hollande's victory in a presidential primary election runoff against Martine Aubry, a more old-school leftist, was resounding, with his score topping 56 percent.

Speaking at Socialist Party headquarters in Paris, Hollande's sights were already on what he described as the "fierce battle" ahead, the presidential election contest that takes place in two rounds on April 22 and May 6.

"I measure the scale of the task awaiting me. It is vast. It is grave. I must rise to meet the aspirations of a French people who are sick and tired of the policies of Nicolas Sarkozy," Hollande said.

The polls suggest French voters are ready to put the left back in the Elysee Palace and oust the unpopular Sarkozy, who is widely expected to seek a second five-year term.

It would be the first presidential election win since the late Francois Mitterrand was re-elected in 1988.

The left's runaway favorite to become president had been former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn but his IMF career and presidential hopes foundered when he was arrested in New York in May on charges of sexually assaulting a hotel maid. The charges have since been dropped.

The ease with which the less internationally renowned Hollande and Aubry filled his shoes as popular alternatives suggests many voters are simply weary of Sarkozy and his economic policies.

Hollande has never held a national government post, unlike former labor minister Aubry, architect of France's 35-hour working week and daughter of former European Commission President Jacques Delors.

She pledged allegiance as she conceded defeat.

"I will invest all my strength and energy to ensure that he is the president of France seven months from now," Aubry said. The two later hugged, keen to show after the sparring of the last few days that the Socialists were now united in their quest for power.

CONCILIATORY NOTE

The Socialist Party had organised a two-round contest where anyone who paid a euro and declared allegiance to left-wing values could vote.

More than 2.6 million people voted in the first-round last Sunday, when anti-globalisation hard-liner Arnaud Montebourg scored a surprise 17 percent.

Hollande, who promised in the final days of campaigning to crack down on banks and financial market excess, consolidated his position by securing the support of the four contenders knocked out in round one, including Montebourg.

Aubry is considered a more old-school Socialist but much of the difference is in style rather than fundamental policy.

Among the four eliminated candidates who backed Hollande in the runoff and joined him during his victory address on Sunday night was Segolene Royal, Hollande's former companion and mother of his four children.

Primary finalists Hollande and Aubry shared the main tenets of a Socialist Party manifesto that promises to scrap 50 billion euros of tax breaks that mostly went to the wealthy under Sarkozy, using half of this money to fund state jobs and promote growth, with the rest to cut the deficit.

Opinion polls show Sarkozy heavily trailing Hollande in a presidential election which ends in a runoff on May 6, followed weeks later by a parliamentary election. Sarkozy, who won power in 2007 after 12 years of fellow conservative Jacques Chirac, has yet to declare a re-election bid.

"It's been a long time, far too long," said Hollande.

His companion, journalist Valerie Trierweiler, went a step further in a tweeted remake of the words Mitterrand pronounced when he learned he had become the first left-wing president of France's Fifth Republic in May 1981: "Quelle victoire. Quelle victoire (What a victory. What a victory)."

Footloose's Kenny Wormald: Kissing Julianne Hough Was "Cool" (omg!)

Ryan Seacrest better watch it!

Julianne Hough might be dating the American Idol host, but it's Footloose costar Kenny Wormald that's kissing her on the silver screen!

NEWS: Julianne Hough says Ryan Seacrest's dancing is "awkward," "cute!"

So how did Wormald, 27, like smooching the former Dancing With the Stars pro? "It was cool," he told Us Weekly at a Cinema Society screening of Footloose Wednesday in NYC. "Ryan's cool [too]," he added.

PHOTOS: Would Julianne and Ryan have dated in high school?

"[Julianne is] the hardest working person on the planet, and I'm not just saying that to be politically correct," Wormald gushed. "She doesn't stop. She's constantly working out with her trainer and working with coaches and this and that. I'd be trying to sleep on a break, and she'd be like exercising in her trailer. She's awesome."

PHOTOS: Footloose and more highly anticipated fall flicks

Wormald knows remaking an iconic classic is a big responsibility. "We stayed really true to the original," he told Us. "Not with the choreography, but with the actual plot. There's really great dancing. To have the opportunity to actually act in a dance movie that has a really strong plot was really great. It's really not a playlist of dance performances sort of loosely strung together; it's a real movie."

Footloose opens in theaters Friday.

Differing structures underlie differing brain rhythms in healthy and ill, virtual modeling reveals

ScienceDaily (Oct. 14, 2011) ? Virtual brains modeling epilepsy and schizophrenia display less complexity among functional connections, and other differences compared to healthy brain models, researchers at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine report.

The researchers worked backward from brain rhythms -- the oscillating patterns of electrical activity in the brain recorded on electroencephalograms -- from both healthy and ill individuals.

These oscillations relate to the state of awareness. But, instead of seeking answers to how the rhythms emerge, the investigators built models that, when they reproduced the different neural activity patterns seen in real brains, revealed underlying structural differences among the healthy and ill.

Their work is published in the online journal PLoS Computational Biology.

"Our hypothesis is that healthy brains share features with the virtual healthy brains and unhealthy brains share features with virtual unhealthy brains," said Roberto Fern?ndez Gal?n, a professor of neurosciences at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Gal?n has a background in physics, electrophysiology and computational neuroscience.

Gal?n worked with G. Karl Steinke, a former graduate student in Biomedical Engineering at Case School of Engineering, and now a researcher at Boston Scientific Neroumodulation.

After breaking down the oscillating patterns of brain activity collected from real EEGs and MEGs into a usable form, the researchers applied inverse calculations and reverse engineering to develop brain models they refer to as virtual brains.

The most striking difference they found is in the hierarchical networks of brain connections among the models of healthy and unhealthy brains, Gal?n said. "The more complex the network, the more normal the EEG pattern."

"A healthy brain network is similar to the airport network," he explained. "There are a small number of hubs with many connections to other airports and a large number of smaller airports with only a few connections." In the brain model, the airports are called nodes and in the healthy model, about 10 percent of nodes are hubs.

In the real brain, the prefrontal cortex, which is a center for complex thought, social behavior and more, is a hub. "It is thus reasonable to think that the functional connectivity of the prefrontal cortex is altered in pathologies like schizophrenia," said Gal?n.

Indeed, the network in the epileptic brain model is less complex than the healthy model and the network in the schizophrenia model is even less so. The result is that the dominance of the hubs falls off, which may be indicative of a neuropathology or mental illness, the researchers say.

Their analysis reveals that oscillating brain activity in the virtual models appear to emerge from interactions among neurons and not from so-called pacemakers, which some researchers hypothesize are specialized neurons generating different rhythms of activity in the brain.

This information, combined with finding that healthy brain rhythms are not homogeneously distributed across all virtual brain nodes, supports the idea that oscillations may be a mechanism linking perceptual information across sensory and associative areas of the brain, the researchers say.

Gal?n and Steinke also discovered that nodes receiving the greatest input produced the smallest fluctuations in activity in the healthy and epileptic brain models. But the inverse relationship was not seen in the schizophrenic model.

The researchers have made the computer programs that run their algorithms and simulations available free to clinicians and other investigators who want to test the predictions made by the models or to expand their own studies. They are included in the supplemental materials, along with technical instructions supplied with the paper or at http://www.case.edu/med/galanlab/software.html.

The research was funded through grants from the Mt. Sinai Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awarded to Gal?n and through a Choose Ohio First grant awarded to Steinke. The brain models were simulated and analyzed in part using the High Performance Computing Cluster at Case Western Reserve University.
