Carolyn S. Larson, head of the Business Reference Section ? Science, Technology?&?Business Division/Library of Congress, is the recipient of the 2012 My Favorite Martian Award for contributions to the?MARS: Emerging Technologies in Reference Section?of the?Reference and User Services Association.
The?MARS: Emerging Technologies in Reference Section is a special interest section ofRUSA?that represents the interests of those concerned with attaining the highest possible quality in planning, developing, managing, teaching and conducting all forms of computer-based reference information services in libraries. The My Favorite Martian Award is given annually to a section member who has demonstrated excellence in service to the section.
Larson has a long resume of involvement with?MARS. In addition to serving on several MARS?committees such as the?MARS?Conference Program Planning Committee and theMARS?Continuing Education and Publications Task Force, she has served as?MARS?Chair, vice-chair, and past chair. During her term as chair of section, Larson expertly led the section and served as a stabilizing force during a critical transition period that included a significant name change ? from the Machine-Assisted Reference Section to the?MARS: Emerging Technologies in Reference Section ? and a mission change for the section.
Larson will be honored at the?RUSA?Awards Reception, scheduled for 5 ? 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 24 in the Sequoia Ballroom E-H at the Disney Grand Californian Hotel as a part of?RUSA?s events at the?ALA?Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
