NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ? A union at New Jersey's Newark Airport is disputing accusations that dozens of baggage screeners failed to properly screen luggage and should be fired or suspended.
The Transportation Security Administration announced Friday it is seeking to fire 25 employees and suspend 19 others at Newark Liberty. Some of them are screeners, others supervisors and managers.
In some cases the TSA says screeners failed to open up and physically check bags that had been flagged by X-ray machines.
The TSA says the alleged violations were uncovered late last year after surveillance cameras were installed in one of 25 screening rooms to check for possible thefts.
Stacy Dodtmann of the American Federation of Government Employees says the union likely will seek to have the charges dismissed.
